Belgian parliament to legalize child euthanasia

I recently stumbled across this news regarding child euthanasia bill on it’s way to getting legalized in Belgium. It has evidently caused a huge uproar amongst the global masses, terming it to be “cruel” and  “inhuman”.

Looking at it from a bird’s eye view, yes, it is indeed inhuman, but if this issue is looked at from the child’s perspective, well I see nothing. Understand nothing. Comprehend nothing. What would a child, who is so tender in mind, suffering from something that is terminal and who doesn’t realize that this is not normal, think or decide upon it’s life???? The kid is unknown to what life is, leave aside death. All it wants and yearns for is it’s mother to relieve it from the pain it is going through.

There were 1,133 cases of euthanasia recorded in Belgium in 2011, accounting for about 1 percent of the country’s deaths that year, according to AFP. This bill is being backed up by guidelines and clauses that the doctors need to abide by strictly, while opting for euthanasia for terminally ill and comatose children.

The mere thought of this is horrifying, but would the child’s family want the kid to suffer for the rest of it’s life? Or would they prefer to see it die bit by bit everyday? I am personally not able to decide who is right here. If the child is between the age group of 15- 18 yrs, then yes, a basic level of understanding and decision making could be expected from the kid, but for children below that age…. it just sounds vague to me.

This has been on my mind for quite sometime now and wanted to share it with you all. Would love to know your thoughts on this.

Sad and clouded,
